you'll have to go in via instrument cable. You're wanting to send the audio signal like this Guitar > Interface > Guitar Tracks Pro 3 > Cake Walk. Once the signal gets into the computer you will tell GTP3 to look for the proper input, make sure you have you monitor set accordingly, turn your levels up. Then you want to tell the Cakewalk track you want to record to to get it's signal from GTP3.
MIDI is not audio. This is a common misconception. MIDI can only send information. example, hook your keyboard up to you computer via midi and have each note you hit on the keyboard trigger a different sample from your computer. the key your hitting on the keyboard itself is not making the sound. it is telling the computer to play an audio sample that has been assigned to that note.
MIDI is used simply to control other things. All it can do is tell something else what to do. another example, I have a MIDI foot controller with many banks and a couple expression pedals. pressing these buttons or moving the expression pedals don't do anything on their own until i have connected the MIDI OUT of the foot controller to the MIDI IN of my guitar effects processor. Now whenever i press Bank 2 on my foot controller it sends a signal to my processor telling it to change from the preset i had assigned to Bank 1 to the preset i have assigned to Bank 2. So at the touch of a button i can have totally different effects come on. Likewise for the expression pedals, they do nothing on their own until i assign for instance the Whammy effect of my processor to be controlled by the expression pedal. Now whenever i move the expression pedal it sends a MIDI signal to my Whammy effect inside my effects processor telling the whammy to change my guitar signal accordingly. The whammy effect is what is actually doing all the work and making the sounds you hear, the MIDI signal is just telling the whammy effect how much it should change the audio signal.
