I have recently been trying to find information about the Line 6 Guitarport rifftraker. It seems that it is a lot better then the Line 6 toneport ux2, which i made a forum about a while ago. One question that I have is if you can just directly record from the rifftracker or do you need a mic? There is a guitarist on youtube named bardc001. He uses the line 6 guitarport rifftracker to record. It sounds pretty decent. Go on his myspace and you'll be able to hear it. Listen to the son dissonant war. HE also uses a program called audacity which I have also. Can someone explain how you can use the guiarport and the audacity together?

Rifftracker sounds great for the guitarist who doesnt want to get caught up in the recording process and just lay down some quick tracks whenever they want. the instant drummer feature is quick easy and straight forward to use. it will lay down some beats for you however it will not in a million years sound like a real drummer like they said, but, at a price like that what can you expect.
You do not need a microphone to record guitar with this package. Guitar Port is the hardware included that you plug your guitar into and that carries your signal to your computer via USB. From there, after tweaking your guitar tone you can either send that signal to Audacity to be recorded, or you can send it to Riffworks which is the software that comes with this version of the Guitar Port which can also be used to record with and that contains the instant drummer and other features.
Also, if you find that you prefer audacity to riffworks but you still want to use the instant drummer or some other feature, you can save and export your drum track in Riffworks as a .wma or .mp3 file and then import that file into Audacity as its own track. Then record guitar/bass into audacity using guitar port and you still have your drum track.
