Thanks for your post my friend. Well... Yes, I dealed with stuff like that when I was younger and it's quite a normal thing, I started to play at 10, but music is my passion since I was born and I started to play with bands until I was 14.
At that time I was almost at highschool and not really been sure about my life project but I was sure that music and guitar was a very important part of my life and person already. So I continued playing here and there until I realised that it was becoming my job, not only my passion, but I was starting to get paid for it.
It was pretty clear to me that eventually I could save some money to get some gear pieces and stuff, but most important I was in my way to get really known all around my town and state doing what I like, so I finished highschool and decided to dedicate myself to music, at first my parents were that sure about it, but after talking about it many times and trusting in my vision they decided to support me, that was because they really noticed that I was taking music and guitar as a serious thing and I demonstrated to them that I can achieve what I aim to achieve, so I started to go on tour with bands and stuff.
My biggest advide is to not be afraid and have a clear vision of what you want to do, being working in music has to be with a lot of things not only practicing hours and hours, you guys are so young and just at the right time to start work thing out and let your parents know that this is what you wanna do for your life, not just as a hobbie, but you want to make a living out of it.
You should organize your time for school and the instrument and eventually everything will be just fine and remember: Music is the only career that parents do not force ourselves to study
So go for it! Don't be afraid, have a clear vision and stay always on track, keep informed, research, prepare yourself and be humble.
And most important, have fun!!!
Regards.
Cesar.
